Profile
Luke Charteris was born in Camborne, Cornwall but grew up in Carmarthenshire; he plays as a second row forward. Charteris signed for the Dragons in 2003 and is still one of their most influential figures in the squad; he can often be seen gaining yard for his team mates.
Charteris represented Wales U19 and U21 but made his senior debut against South Africa in 2004.
Charteris was part of the RBS Six Nations squad in 2006 but did not play in any of the fixtures. However he was included in the squad chosen for the Prince William Cup clash with world champions South Africa in November 2007.
In the 2006/2007 season Charteris made 23 appearances for the Dragons. He provided the Dragons with a try in the Heineken Cup 24th place play-off against Rugby Calvisano, the crucial try ensured the Dragons a place in Europe's top-flight competition for the 2007–2008 season. It was this season which saw Charteris collect his 50th cap for the region.
Charteris was selected for the South Africa tour this summer and has won 7 caps for Wales. Charteris has been selected to be part of Gatland’s 32-strong squad for the Invesco Perpetual Series 2008 which will see Wales face New Zealand and World Champions South Africa at the Millennium Stadium in November.
