Having played for his local comprehensive school Ysgol Gyfan Glyntaff, Robinson has won caps for under 21 and Wales A honours, he was also part of the under-19 Welsh squad who made It to the finals of the 1999 FIRA tournament. It was in April of the same year, on his 19th birthday that he made his debut for the Cardiff Blues against Sale.

Robinson made his senoir Wales debut in 2001 against Japan, a week later he scored his first international try against the same opponents.

In 2000, Robinson went to Canada with the Wales Development team; his success on the tour led him to be chosen for a number of Wales’s senior tours including Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Four years later in 2004, Robinson captained the Blues and became the highest try scorer in a season, scoring 14 tries for his club. He was voted 'Player of the Year' in 2003–2004 by the supporters' club.

Robinson has won 23 caps for Wales and was chosen for the 2007 preliminary Rugby World Cup squad, he made the final cut. Prior to the Rugby World Cup, Robinson featured in both Invesco Perpetual Summer Series matches which were held at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

He has been voted player of the year twice for the Blues and the 2008/2009 season is Robinsons’ 11th season playing for the club. His commitment both on and off the pitch to the club has been marked with a testimonial year to celebrate the success of his career to date.
